Sd Card Is in Read Only Mode
-
INTRO
This info may help you if the following is truthful:
- upwards until now youve had no issues when using your sd card
- all of a sudden you tin no longer write to the card, possibly along with an error message existence reported that indicates the sd carte is mounted read-simplyThis is some other one of those situations where it is not necessary to take extreme measures such as doing a complete reformat, or outright replacing the cardas suggested in the many threads on this bailiwick.
Hither are the facts. Your sd carte du jours file allocation table (FAT) has some kind of error. Its an android-thing that crops up once in a while. Because of this FAT mistake, the carte automatically gets mounted read-only, and no matter how many times you get into settings and try to unmount/remount the card, information technology is to no avail.
SOLUTION
Fix the Fat
- connect device to your PC (USB connectedness) and make sure itsouth set and then that you tin copy files to/from your computer (on my device in the notification panel theresouthward an selection to do this under USB connected)
- on your pc, open windows explorer (or click on start->figurer), and then correct click on the mapped drive to your sd menu you lot may have to wait a minute or two for the mapping to accept event
- select Properties
- select Tools
- select Check now (for mistake checking) to automatically ready file system errors (no need to bargain with bad sectors at this time)
- when completed (takes a minute or so), the FAT will be in working club once once more. No files are deleted during the procedure, so no need to worry nearly that.
- safely disconnect the device from your pc, at which bespeak the sd menu volition now be mounted read-write and yousre good to go02-25-2013 12:08 PM

If you have the Fat problem more than than once, information technology could be an indication that the carte du jour is going bad. (The Fatty is one of the most written-to areas on the carte du jour.) At that point, make sure that you have every single file that you may ever want backed up onto your computer. And so when the Fat finally goes bad (and if it'southward a good manufacturer, they may even replace the card for free), you won't lose your data.
Recall, fifty-fifty though SD cards have a huge number of write cycles, it IS a finite number, and every SD menu will eventually go bad. You can replace the card, but you can never replace the flick of your granddaughter'southward kickoff step. Data yous don't have backed up to at least 2 independent places is information that yous really don't need.

Try putting the card into a carte du jour reader and plugging that into the computer. It should come up up as a drive letter. Follow the instructions from at that place.
If the card doesn't come up (but other cards in the aforementioned card reader exercise), or the card shows an mistake and doesn't come, the card itself may exist bad. (There's a whole computer in that little card.) In that case, contact the carte manufacturer. (In cases similar that, it pays to buy SanDisk cards - they're very easy to deal with when a card goes bad [which is rare].)

Non And so Hands! I bought a new SD Bill of fare and re-installed all my music files. It, of form, still said "read only" and created a trouble with apps that desire to access it similar camera. Then I tried your suggestion on my win 8 calculator. The phone showed up every bit a CD Rom then no fix option. I put the SD card in a usb holder and that showed up as Drive E: I then ran chkdsk and fixed information technology. NO BENEFIT. I and so put the sd card dorsum and Reformatted it and reinstalled my music files. NO Benefit. Nonetheless Read Only on the phone. I then downloaded "SDFormatter" and let that format the deejay and again installed my music files. "NO BENEFIT still read only and creating errors.
Any other ideas? It is Not Likely the new carte and I take formatted information technology enough. Information technology seems it has got to exist the phone. However without the sd card the phone works flawlessly! BTW, when the SD Card is installed the phone reports in the notification box "686%" every bit processing state of the mounted SD Menu! That and the Read Only are the notable errors.

That didn't work for me, I believe my problem is beyond weird
I can access my phone'southward sd card from PC, tin read the file. I tin can besides format my SD card from PC and inside phone both, but the thing is , although PC and Phone both successfully formatted but really didn't have whatever outcome. After the formatting, I refresh, then, all those previous folder and file announced agian. It'due south really making my head ache...
I don't think information technology's my PC's problem, cuz I tin can use my phone's retention as normal, but the external SD card has this weird thing.
At present I'm really confused and don't know where to look for a solution. Maybe I should just change other one SD menu. gosh.

Hello,
sadly your postal service didn't work as once i select the drive in windows explorer, i tin can exercise "properties", but "tools" is non available.
now, i can encounter the files in my download folder from my PC and from my phone. even admission them (they are downloaded movies: .mp4 and .flv). in the past (with KK and lollipop) i could download, delete, move, etc... my files via my phone or via my figurer. now it seems that i tin download the file, merely i cannot delete information technology (neither via telephone or via desktop).
on telephone it says: "check to make certain it's non mounted every bit read only", but in one case i bank check information technology via PC, it's not checked every bit read-only. if i try to delete via PC, information technology just says it couldn't and to either skip file or terminate. something i never had earlier.
i checked with ConnectBot to see that i am indeed rooted. "quickboot" doesn't work, although that may exist because of lollipop, as i hadn't tested information technology before i had the read-only consequence.in other words, i can download files, just i cannot delete them. eventually i volition run out of storage.
i can as well not find the "tools" option, as it's just not available.any other suggestions?
thanks a bunch

If information technology's a SanDisk card, go to SanDisk microSD Tech Support and open a alive conversation (box at the upper right). They'll supersede lacking cards.
Samsung probably will too, but getting to them isn't equally easy as getting to SanDisk.
Other manufacturers? Since they're using Samsung or SanDisk chips in their cards (there are no others), who knows?
